John 7:37-38: “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from him.'”
TL;DR: Jesus offers streams of living water to those who believe in Him. Be filled with His Spirit and let His love overflow, bringing life to others. Stop seeking fulfillment from fleeting things and commit to being a source of positivity and joy this New Year.
When Jesus spoke about streams of living water flowing from those who believe in Him, He painted a picture of abundant, Spirit-filled life. This living water doesn’t just quench our thirst; it overflows, refreshing and inspiring those around us.
When we’re filled with the Spirit of the Lord, we naturally become a source of life and love for others. On the flip side, when we’re empty, we can drain the energy and joy of those around us. I know this firsthand. During my years of drinking, I tried to fill the void inside me with alcohol. While it numbed me temporarily, it left me emptier in the long run, creating a vacuum of disappointment and pain.
The truth is, nothing outside of God’s Spirit can truly fill us. Seeking fulfillment from relationships, achievements, or material things only leads to disillusionment. Even the best-intentioned people will disappoint because no one is capable of meeting the deep needs of our souls—only Jesus can do that.
This New Year, let’s make a fresh commitment to be filled with the love and Spirit of Jesus. When we surrender our hearts to Him, He fills us to overflowing, enabling us to positively impact those around us. It’s not just about receiving His love—it’s about letting that love flow freely to others, creating streams of encouragement, joy, and inspiration in their lives.
Today, embrace the streams of living water Jesus offers and let His Spirit fill you to overflowing. May your life be a source of hope and refreshment to those around you.
