1 Thessalonians 5:8:
“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.”
TL;DR: Restless nights often stem from worry and trying to control the uncontrollable. Find peace by placing your faith and hope in Jesus. Meditate on His promises, quiet your mind, and trust in His perfect plan.
Do you ever find yourself tossing and turning, unable to quiet your mind? Last night was one of those nights for me. Normally, my sleep is sweet, but I’m facing a situation beyond my control, and I can’t seem to fully trust God with it.
I’ve been so consumed by trying to force a specific outcome that I’ve lost sight of faith and hope. My mind spins with anxiety as I grapple with why God isn’t giving me what I want. I convince myself that my desired outcome is the only one that will bring peace—but deep down, I know that’s not true.
Finally, in the middle of the night, I meditated on this simple but powerful prayer:
“God, heal me, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are the one I praise!” (Jeremiah 17:14).
I needed God to heal me from my own restless thoughts, my waning faith, and my lack of hope.
It’s said that when we lose hope, we lose the will to live. But here’s the truth: There is always hope in Jesus Christ. Even when your mind races in the wrong direction, STOP. Quiet your thoughts. Give your full attention to the hope found in Him.
Faith and hope are like armor for our hearts and minds. As Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:8, we are to put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. This spiritual armor protects us from the turmoil of worry and fear, grounding us in God’s eternal promises.
God sees the big picture—the forest through the trees—while we’re often stuck in the thickets of our own worries. When we surrender our anxieties to Him and meditate on His truth, He offers us a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Today, if you find yourself tossing and turning, put your faith and hope in Jesus. Trust that He knows what’s best, even when life feels out of control. I promise you, His peace is real, and it’s waiting for you.
May you find rest in His love and hope in His salvation today.
