Resist What You Will Be Ashamed Of: Breaking Free from Sin’s Snare

Romans 6:21:
“What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!”

TL;DR: Sin is a trap that leaves us with regret. When temptation comes, pause and ask yourself: Will I be ashamed of this later? Avoid situations that lead to sin and walk in God’s strength instead.

Sin is a snare.

It promises satisfaction but always leads to regret. Romans 6:21 asks us a powerful question:

“What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of?”

If we’re honest, the answer is none.

We all struggle with temptations—whether it’s gossip, complaining, overindulging, or something else we know isn’t good for us. Yet, despite knowing the consequences, we feel a pull toward those behaviors.

The next time temptation comes, pause.

Ask yourself:

How will I feel after I do this?
Will this bring me closer to God or pull me away?
Is this something I’ll be ashamed of later?

Often, we can see temptation coming. Let’s be intentional about avoiding places, situations, or mindsets that make it harder to resist. The enemy knows our weak spots, but God gives us the strength to overcome them.

Today, let’s choose resistance over regret and walk in the freedom God has for us!
