Dig Deep: Building a Life on a Firm Foundation

Luke 6:46-49:
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

TL;DR: A strong foundation in Christ is the key to standing firm in life’s challenges. Dig deep, do what is right, and build your life on God’s Word—not on shifting sand.

Today, I’m skiing the American Birkebeiner Open Track—a race I’ve been preparing for. I registered for the classic technique, but at one point, I wanted to switch to skate skiing. Some people told me, “No worries, just do what you want.”

But deep down, I knew it wasn’t right.

It’s a small decision, but small decisions reveal the foundation we are building on.

This is exactly what Jesus talks about in Luke 6:46-49—the difference between someone who hears His words and puts them into practice versus someone who ignores them.

One digs deep and builds on rock.
The other takes shortcuts and builds on sand.

Without a firm foundation, destruction comes quickly.

Today, I’m going to dig deep—not just in my ski race, but in every area of my life. I don’t want to compromise in the little things or take the easy way out. I want to live in alignment with God’s Word, even when it’s hard.

What about you?

Are there areas in your life where you need to dig deeper and stand on God’s truth instead of convenience?

Do today what lines up with the Word of God, and you will stand strong—no matter what comes your way!
