Be the Encourager: Lift Others Up in Faith and Strength

1 Peter 5:2-4, 6-7:
“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

TL;DR: Encouragement is powerful! What you say and do impacts others. Choose to lift people up, remind them of God’s goodness, and let everything you do bring glory to the Lord!

First, thank you again for all the prayers—they’ve been felt! I had another great race and was able to be an encourager, not a complainer!

On the 53K course, I heard plenty of grumbling—about wax, hills, snow conditions… But every time someone complained, I quickly pointed out something to be thankful for.

Toward the end of the race, a girl turned to me and said:

“You have single-handedly kept me going! Thanks for being so encouraging.”

I responded:

“It’s our Good Lord who has kept you going! I’ve just been reminding you of His goodness.”

Later, in the changing rooms, I heard another powerful testimony—a first-time Birkie skier was about to give up. But a Birchlegger (a skier who has completed 20 or more Birkies) took her under her wing and encouraged her to keep going. The young skier finished the race because of that encouragement!

What we say and do matters. It does not return void.

1 Peter 5 reminds us that we are called to lead with humility and serve with willing hearts. Encouraging others is one of the greatest ways to reflect God’s love in action.

Today, remember this: Be the encourager! Speak life, uplift those around you, and glorify the Lord in all you do.
