Philippians 3:14
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
TL;DR:
Even in injury or unexpected hardship, you can still press forward to the upward call of God. Your strength isn’t in your circumstances—it’s in Christ. Whether on the water or in recovery, keep your eyes on the prize that truly matters.
Yesterday, I was out water skiing—something I love. I borrowed a friend’s ski, didn’t come out of the binding, and ended up with a broken leg. This morning, I’m about to go into surgery, and I’d so appreciate your prayers.
As I reflect on this painful detour, Philippians 3:14 feels especially close: “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
This wasn’t the kind of “pressing forward” I had in mind yesterday, but here I am, choosing to trust God even through the discomfort, even through the disappointment. Whether we’re gliding smoothly or sidelined by life’s unexpected turns, God is always calling us upward—toward more trust, more faith, more closeness with Him.
Sometimes pressing on means literally being held together by grace when everything else feels broken. Today, I’m holding on to the peace of Christ and trusting that this too is part of His plan. If you’re facing a setback, I hope you’ll join me in pressing on—not just toward healing, but toward Him.
