Hot-Tempered vs. Calm: Choosing Patience Through Christ

Proverbs 15:18
“A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.”

Proverbs 16:3
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

TL;DR:

Anger stirs up conflict, but patience brings peace. When stress rises, give your emotions to Jesus. Trust that God’s got this—and choose calm over quarrels.

Who are you—quick to anger or a calm force of peace?

For many years, I was full of rage. Anger would take me over completely. I found that athletics gave me a physical outlet to release it. Even now, if I feel stress coming on, I’ll go for a walk or do something active. That helps, but not every situation allows for a physical release.

What I’ve learned is this: the quickest and most powerful solution is to take my anxiety and give it to Jesus. In that very moment, He calms my soul.

It’s easy to get swept up in emotions and react without thinking. But when I choose discernment—when I remember that God’s got this—I can respond with patience instead of rage. That’s how quarrels dissolve instead of escalate.

Today, you’ll likely face moments where you can either lash out or remain calm. The question is: will you let your temper lead, or will you trust the Lord to steady your spirit?
