Ephesians 5:15-17
“Be careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”
TL;DR:
Wisdom is found in slowing down, seeking God’s will, and making the most of each moment. True peace comes when we stop rushing and start trusting His way over ours.
Be wise! That’s the call from Ephesians 5—discern the Lord’s will and do it.
Since my injury, I’ve been learning to live in the present moment instead of rushing through it. And in doing so, I’ve found unexpected joy.
The other day, I sat quietly and watched two sparrows on my deck. Such a simple moment—but one I might have missed before. Yesterday, a friend dropped me off an hour early for an event. Normally, I would have been pacing, frustrated about “lost time.” Instead, I chose to enjoy the people already there and learned more about them. It was perfect.
In AA, we recite the Serenity Prayer:
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
That’s wisdom. Accepting God’s plan instead of forcing our own. Trusting His timing instead of always rushing ahead.
Today, let’s be wise. Let’s make the most of the opportunities before us and let God’s will unfold in His way, not ours.
