James 4:3, 7-8
“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. … Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you.”
TL;DR:
God hears every prayer, but His answers aren’t always the ones we want. Sometimes His loving “no” or “wait” is protection, guidance, and a call to trust His better plan.
Sometimes I pray for things and don’t get them. I know without a doubt that God hears every single prayer—but His answer isn’t always “yes.”
If I’m honest, I’d love it if God always said, “Yes, Kimberly, of course—you can have whatever you want.” But that wouldn’t be the love of a good Father. A wise and loving parent doesn’t hand a child something that would ultimately harm them.
God answers prayers in three ways: yes, no, or wait. And sometimes the hardest part is trusting Him when the answer isn’t the one I hoped for.
James reminds us that sometimes our motives are wrong—we may be asking out of selfishness, comfort-seeking, or misplaced priorities. God’s love goes deeper than granting temporary pleasures; He wants to shape our hearts, protect us, and draw us nearer to Him.
So, if your prayers feel unanswered today, remember this: God isn’t ignoring you. He’s protecting you, refining you, and preparing you for something better.
Trust His timing. Trust His wisdom. And most of all—trust His love.
