Hebrews 1:8-10
“But about the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.’”
TL;DR:
Happiness comes and goes, but joy in Christ lasts forever. True joy and peace aren’t found in circumstances but in trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Are you anointed with the oil of joy?
Happiness is fleeting—it depends on what’s happening around us. But joy? Joy is everlasting.
I can’t always feel “happy” when life is hard, but I can experience joy and peace even in my darkest seasons when I keep my eyes on Jesus. He reminds us in John 16:33: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Our ultimate joy is knowing that we have Heaven to look forward to. But even now, we can live in daily joy and peace when we trust Him fully.
Righteous living—choosing to walk away from sinful desires—also helps us experience joy in the present because it saves us from the painful consequences of sin. Still, true joy and peace don’t come from what we do or don’t do. They come from trusting Jesus as Lord and Savior.
And here’s the beauty: even when we stumble (and we all do), Jesus picks us up, brushes us off, and sets us back on His path. His love never fails, even when we fall.
So today, let’s pursue righteous living, not out of fear, but out of love—and let’s walk in the anointing of His oil of joy.
