Be Loved, Then Love: Learning to Receive and Reflect God’s Love

1 John 4:19
“We love because He first loved us.”

John 14:15
“If you love me, you will obey what I command.”

John 13:34
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Matthew 22:37
“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’”

TL;DR:

We can only truly love others when we first rest in God’s love for us. When we live as His beloved, love naturally flows from us to Him and to others.

Loving God—and being loved by God—can sometimes be hard for me. Human affection is easier to understand. It’s tangible, visible, and familiar. But God’s love? It’s deep, unconditional, and requires stillness to recognize.

I often have to quiet my soul to truly feel His presence and remember that I am deeply loved, created by Him, for Him, and never alone.

Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will obey My commands.” His greatest commands are simple but profound: Love God. Love others. When I live from the truth that I am already loved by God, it becomes easier to love Him back—and to love others as He loves me.

When we love someone deeply, we want to spend time with them, give our best to them, and express gratitude for them. That’s how God invites us to love Him—through time, thankfulness, and obedience.

Sometimes I forget that out of my love for God flows my love for others. But when I remember how deeply He loves me, it changes how I see everything.

We love because He first loved us. Let’s rest in that truth today—be loved, and then love. ❤️
