Proverbs 27:7
“He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.”
TL;DR:
When we’re spiritually empty, even “bread crumbs” of attention or affection can look like a feast. But when we’re filled with God’s love, we stop chasing crumbs and start living in the fullness of His truth.
Have you ever heard the term “bread crumbing”? It’s a modern phrase used to describe when someone gives just enough attention or kindness to keep another person hanging on. But here’s the truth—if we’re already full of the love of God, we won’t settle for crumbs.
I’ve been there. I’ve mistaken someone’s kindness for romantic interest because, deep down, I was starving for love and validation. Those small crumbs of attention felt like a full meal. But they weren’t—they were a symptom of spiritual hunger.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33:
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”
When we seek God first—really seek Him—He fills the empty spaces in our hearts that no human being ever could.
In today’s world, it’s easy to blame the “bread crumber,” to point fingers and say they led us on. But healing begins when we stop blaming others and start looking inward. We can’t control others’ actions—but we can control how filled or empty we are in Christ.
If you’ve been tempted to settle for emotional bread crumbs, pause and ask yourself:
💭 Am I seeking God first?
💭 Do I truly believe that I am more than enough in Him?
When we live full—full of the Holy Spirit, full of God’s love, full of peace—we don’t chase scraps of attention or affection. We recognize our worth and wait for what’s whole, healthy, and holy.
Be encouraged today to feast on God’s love, not on the crumbs the world offers.
Because when you’re full in Jesus, you won’t fall for bread crumbs.
