Proverbs 23:29-33
“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things.”
TL;DR:
When you numb pain instead of facing it with God, the pain grows. When you face it head-on with trust, God gives peace instead of poison.
You are warned clearly in Scripture about the cost of escaping pain instead of confronting it. Temporary relief always carries a hidden price. What looks soothing at first eventually bites back, leaving confusion, regret, and deeper wounds.
You live in a world that hurts. When pain comes, your instinct may be to numb it—to scroll, binge, eat, drink, shop, stay busy, or distract yourself just enough not to feel. But numbing never heals. It only delays, and delay compounds the pain.
When you face pain head-on with full awareness and trust God in the middle of it, something different happens. You don’t just survive the pain—you experience peace within it. Not a quick escape, not a false calm, but real peace that steadies your heart and strengthens your faith.
You may not struggle with substances, but you are human. You likely numb yourself with something. The question isn’t if you do—it’s where you turn when trouble comes.
Today, you are invited to stop running, stop numbing, and start trusting. God does not promise a pain-free life, but He does promise peace that does not poison your soul.
When trouble comes, you can choose awareness over avoidance, trust over escape, and healing over harm.
