John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
tl;dr
God’s peace is not dependent on circumstances. Through prayer, trust, and thanksgiving, His peace can guard hearts at every stage of life.
This is one of my favorite passages. His peace. He gives us His peace.
Today is my 64th birthday. It feels like a bit of a strange birthday. Next year, if I am still here, I will be on Medicare and Social Security. That naturally causes reflection. What will I do with the time I have left? What truly matters?
I have found that life on earth passes quickly. Only what is done for Christ will last.
That is why these verses bring such comfort. God does not offer the fragile kind of peace the world offers, the kind that disappears when circumstances change. He offers a peace that transcends understanding. A peace that guards hearts and minds even in uncertainty.
There are always reasons to feel anxious. Questions about the future. Health concerns. Aging. Loss. Change. Unknowns. Yet Scripture calls for prayer instead of panic, thanksgiving instead of fear, trust instead of striving.
God has us exactly where He wants us. Nothing is wasted in His hands. He can and will use all things for His glory and our good.
So today, on this birthday, I choose peace. Not because everything is certain, but because He is.
Whatever is being faced today, may there be a pursuit of His peace with grateful hearts. Trust Him. Follow Him. Walk in His peace with thanksgiving.
