Romans 8:1-2
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”
tl;dr
Jesus did not set believers free so they could live under condemnation. In Christ there is forgiveness, freedom, and the strength to keep moving forward.
It is so easy to walk in condemnation.
A mistake is made. A sin is repeated. A poor choice is revisited. Before long, guilt turns into shame, and shame turns into self-condemnation.
STOP!!
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
What a powerful promise.
Notice that Scripture does not say there is less condemnation. It says there is no condemnation. Through Jesus Christ, the law of the Spirit of life has set us free from the law of sin and death.
That does not mean sin does not matter. It means Jesus already paid the price for it.
Too often, after receiving forgiveness, there is a tendency to pick condemnation back up and carry it around as if it belongs there. It does not. Conviction from the Holy Spirit leads to repentance and restoration. Condemnation leads to discouragement and defeat.
Jesus came to bring freedom.
When failure happens, repent. Learn from it. Accept His forgiveness. Then get back up and keep walking.
Do not stay stuck in yesterday’s mistakes.
Press on.
Walk in the freedom Jesus purchased.
Walk in His grace.
Walk in His mercy.
Walk in the powerful gift of Jesus today.
