Value Your Marriage: What the Bible Says About Cherishing Your Spouse

Proverbs 12:4 “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.”

Proverbs 18:22 “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”

Proverbs 31:10 “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”

Ephesians 5:33 “However, each one of you must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

TL;DR: Marriage is not always a bed of passion, but it is a God-given gift worth protecting. If your relationship feels strained, Scripture and the saving power of Jesus offer real hope for rebuilding and restoring what matters most.

The other day I met someone who, after many years of marriage, is walking away from his wife. The reason? He met someone who makes him feel young again, someone who brings a sense of passion back into his life. It was a sobering reminder of how quickly we can lose sight of what we already have.

Be inspired to hold tight to the wife of your youth. Long-term marriage is not always filled with fireworks, and that is okay. What it is, is a God-given gift that deserves to be treasured, protected, and fought for, even when feelings fluctuate.

Scripture is remarkably clear on this. A wife of noble character is described as her husband’s crown and worth far more than rubies. A husband who loves and respects his spouse is walking in the favor of the Lord. These are not small things. This is the foundation of a faith-centered marriage.

If you know someone in this situation, or if you find yourself in it, be encouraged. Saving a struggling marriage is possible. Marriages can and do experience real transformation through the powerful gift of Jesus. Restoring your relationship through faith is not just a nice idea; it is something that actually happens when couples invite God into the middle of their pain.

Valuing your marriage is a daily choice. Some days that choice feels easy, and some days it takes everything you have. But a marriage rooted in Christ has something the world cannot offer: grace that never runs out.
