Two Places at Once: How Duplicity Drains You and What God’s Word Says About It

Proverbs 11:3 “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.”

TL;DR: Trying to be in two places at once means only half of you shows up everywhere. Proverbs 11:3 is a powerful reminder that walking in integrity means choosing a path and planting yourself firmly in it, rather than splitting yourself trying to be everything to everyone.

Duplicity is something I have been struggling with lately.

I have wanted to be in two places at once. So that is exactly what I did — I put half of me in both places. It has not gone well.

Trying to be everything to everyone is exhausting, and if we are being honest, it is a form of duplicity. You are not fully present anywhere. You are not fully committed to anything. You are just… split.

The upright choose the right path and walk in it. They do not play both sides of the fence. There is something deeply freeing about that kind of single-minded faith — about making a decision, trusting God with it, and moving forward without looking back over your shoulder.

Today, I am choosing the path of God’s will and staying firmly planted in it. That is the goal, anyway. Not perfection, but intention.

If you have been feeling stretched thin, pulled in opposite directions, or like you cannot fully show up anywhere, you might be in the same place I have been. Living with integrity does not mean having it all together. It means being honest about where you are, making a choice, and trusting God to guide your steps from there.

May each of us be strong in the Lord today, walking in God-centered focus and spiritual single-mindedness — fully present, fully committed, and fully His.
