Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
TL;DR: Confessing Jesus is Lord means more than words — it means letting Him lead your everyday life. This Election Day, that faith calls us to love God, love our neighbors, and show up for the freedoms that allow us to honor Him.
What does it mean to confess Jesus is Lord? It is one of the most important questions a believer can sit with, especially on a day like today.
Here is how I think about it. First, it means He is our Savior. We are each active sinners, and He alone — by dying for us on the cross — takes the eternal penalty for our sins and gives us eternal life in right standing with God. That is the foundation everything else is built on.
Second, it means He is Lord of our everyday life. That looks like constantly recognizing, repenting of, and turning away from our sinful behaviors, thoughts, and desires — and moving toward living a holy life with a heart that genuinely wants to be pleasing to Jesus.
Jesus made it simple for us when He said, “I give you two new commandments, and all others are based off of these: 1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul. 2. Love your neighbor as yourself.” And I especially love the version He gave us in John: “Love your neighbor as I have loved you.”

Today is Election Day in the United States. And I believe one of the most practical ways we can love God and love our neighbors right now is by getting out and voting to protect the freedoms that allow us to honor Jesus openly and freely. Those freedoms are precious. They are not guaranteed. Voting as an act of faith is how we help guard them for the next generation.
Call on the name of the Lord today. Ask Him to protect this country, to guide the outcome, and to give us leaders who will guard our ability to live out our faith. Praying for our nation and showing up at the polls — that is what loving our neighbor looks like today.
