A Moment on the Lips… Forever on the Hips: Guarding Against Sin and Embracing God’s Grace

1 John 3:19-20
“This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything.”

TL;DR:

Conviction isn’t condemnation—it’s a gift from God, showing us where we’ve wandered and calling us back to Him. While sin may offer momentary pleasure, its consequences linger. Choose intimacy with God over fleeting satisfaction and walk in true freedom and grace.

Does your heart ever condemn you for a behavior you’re stuck in? That’s actually a good sign. It means your heart is still tender to the voice of God.

When we give ourselves over to repeated sin, especially sensual or self-indulgent sin, we risk becoming desensitized—our hearts hardened to conviction. And that’s a dangerous place to be.

Let’s be honest: physical pleasures and worldly intimacy might feel good for a moment, but they pale in comparison to the true intimacy we experience with God. That deep, soul-level peace and connection with Him cannot be replaced.

You’ve probably heard the saying from Weight Watchers:
“A moment on the lips, forever on the hips.”
That holds true in a spiritual sense too. We might indulge in something that feels satisfying for a second, but sin has a way of sticking around—not just in consequence, but in the sorrow and weight it leaves behind.

Yes, Jesus forgives us. He washes us clean. But sometimes, that cleansing process—the scrubbing—it stings. Grace is free, but the consequences of sin still shape our journey. And in a way, those consequences are also love. They’re God saying:
“I love you. I want better for you. Now go and sin no more.”

Today, be encouraged to turn from what’s weighing you down and run toward what lifts you up: intimacy with Jesus. His arms are always open, His forgiveness always available.

Be spiritually fit, be alert, and be blessed. 🙏❤️😇
