Ephesians 2:4-5
“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
TL;DR:
We’re made alive in Christ, not in the stuff we own or the accomplishments we chase. True fulfillment comes from seeking Jesus first—not jobs, relationships, or material things. He’s the only One who always loves us back.
Dead in transgressions but made alive in Christ. That line from Ephesians hits home. Because if I’m honest, sometimes I chase after the things of this world—believing they’ll fill a void that only Jesus can truly satisfy.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of “looking for love in all the wrong places.” I’ve told myself, “If I just get this… if that person would notice me… if my plans worked out perfectly…” Then, maybe, I’d be full. But even when I got what I thought I needed, the emptiness stayed.
Here’s what I’ve learned: Anything I cherish above Christ leaves me empty.
God has poured out blessings in my life—wonderful people, beautiful moments, and even things I enjoy. But if I value any of those blessings more than the One who gave them, I lose my peace and joy. It’s crazy how easy it is to forget that He is the source of it all.
One of my dearest friends puts it perfectly:
“Don’t love something that can’t love you back.”
And guess what? Jesus always loves us back. More than that—He loved us first.
When I seek fulfillment in Christ alone, I’m truly alive. It’s like my spirit wakes up. I can enjoy my job, my people, and my life without making them idols. Because my heart is full from the only source that never runs dry.
So today, ask yourself: Are you seeking life in your stuff—or in your Savior? Choose Jesus. Be alive in Him, and everything else will fall into its rightful place.
