Philippians 4:4–7
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
TL;DR:
When expectations go unmet, anxiety grows. But when we pray with gratitude and trust God with every detail, His peace—beyond understanding—guards our hearts and minds.
Be anxious for nothing.
What a beautiful invitation—and such a challenging one to live out! The peace of God truly transcends all understanding and guards our hearts when we surrender our worries to Him.
I’ve noticed that my anxiety often grows from unmet expectations—especially when I place those expectations on people rather than on God. Yesterday, I spoke with a young mom struggling in her marriage, and it reminded me of how I used to feel when I was married.
I placed expectations on my husband that I never communicated. I expected him to read my mind, to know what I needed, and to act accordingly. When he didn’t, I felt anxious, hurt, and unloved. My peace and joy depended on another person’s behavior—not on God.
But Scripture teaches us that true peace doesn’t come from people meeting our expectations; it comes from trusting God with every situation.
So today, I choose to rejoice always.
I choose to be gentle.
And I choose to take every request to God—with prayer, petition, and thanksgiving.
When I let go of expectations on others and place my confidence in Him alone, anxiety fades, and peace floods in.
Whatever is weighing on your heart today, take it to God. Be anxious for nothing—He’s near, He cares, and He will give you peace. ❤️
