Proverbs 12:6, 14, 16, 18:
“The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.”
“From the fruit of the lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him.”
“A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.”
“Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
TL;DR: Your words have power—to heal or to harm. Choose to encourage, not destroy. Learn from past mistakes, let go of bitterness, and speak life into others today.
A broken heart often leads to hurtful words and destructive behaviors. I know this all too well. Some of my worst actions and words came during my divorces. Yes, plural. I was angry, bitter, and hurting, and I wanted others to join me in my hate.
Looking back, I see how wrong and damaging that was. I walked many roads I would never choose to travel the same way today. If I could undo the pain my words caused, I would.
But here’s the beautiful truth:
I can learn from my past. I can choose differently today.
Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, I can focus on what is good, true, and uplifting. I can let offenses roll off my back and stop replaying old wounds. I can be the encourager, not the destroyer.
Proverbs 12:18 reminds us:
“Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Our words have power—they can tear people down, or they can bring hope and healing. Today, I choose to use my words to build up, not destroy.
Will you join me? Let’s speak life, encourage others, and be the voice of hope in a world that desperately needs it.
