Christ Esteem vs. Self Esteem: Discover True Worth in Christ

Colossians 3:3: “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

Colossians 3:8-10: “But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its creator.”

2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

TL;DR: In a culture that prizes self-esteem, true fulfillment is found in Christ-esteem. Our worth doesn’t come from achievements or perfection but from Jesus’s righteousness. Let go of striving for self-worth and embrace the powerful gift of being a new creation in Christ.

In today’s world, self-esteem is a hot topic. Society tells us to chase self-worth, often to the point of rewarding mediocrity with participation trophies. But when our behaviors and thoughts don’t align with God’s design, our self-esteem inevitably falters. We know the things we’ve done wrong and the good we’ve left undone, and this inner conflict can wreak havoc on our sense of worth.

The truth is, we all have a sin problem. But here’s the good news: Jesus takes our sins, removes them as far as the East is from the West, and remembers them no more. In exchange, He gives us His righteousness—His perfect standing before God.

Through Christ, we are no longer defined by our sins or shortcomings. Instead, we are made into a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us: “The old has gone, the new has come!” This transformation is the foundation of Christ-esteem—a confidence rooted not in ourselves but in who we are through Him.

Yes, we will continue to sin, and sin will affect how we feel about ourselves. But we don’t need to live in shame or self-condemnation. Instead, we can give our sins to Jesus, asking Him to help us let go of harmful desires and behaviors. When we accept His forgiveness, we can walk with our heads held high, knowing we are the righteousness of Christ.

Let go of the pursuit of self-esteem, which will always fall short. Instead, embrace Christ-esteem. This shift not only transforms your inner life but also radiates outward, allowing others to see the joy and freedom found in Jesus. People will notice the authentic confidence you have and will want to know the source—giving you the opportunity to share the Good News of Christ!

You are not the sum of your faults. You are the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Put on Christ-esteem today and shine with His love!
