Cursed or Blessed?

Jeremiah 17:5, 7
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord… But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.’”

tl;dr
Trusting God brings peace. Trusting only human strength leads to anxiety. Each day is an opportunity to place confidence in the One who never fails.

“This is what the Lord says: ‘Cursed is the one who trusts in man… But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord.’”

These verses always stop me in my tracks.

I wake up in the morning, read my Bible, and tell God, “I’m going to trust You today.”

Then I get up, and before long I find myself worrying about this or that. I replay conversations, think through problems, and try to figure everything out on my own.

When I am anxious about everything, I realize I am not fully trusting God in all things.

That is a humbling realization.

Trust is more than something I say with my mouth. It is something I practice throughout the day. Every anxious thought is an opportunity to turn back to God and remember that He is in control.

Jeremiah contrasts two ways of living. One depends on human strength. The other places confidence in the Lord.

I know which one I want.

Not because trusting God means life will always be easy, but because trusting Him brings peace in the middle of life’s uncertainties. He is faithful when I cannot see the outcome. He is steady when everything around me feels unsettled.

Today, I want my confidence to be in Him.

When anxiety begins to creep in, I want it to become a reminder to pray instead of a reason to worry.

Are you trusting in man or trusting in God today?

Choose to trust the One who never changes.
