Cursed When We Trust in Man, Blessed When We Trust in God

Jeremiah 17:5-8
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.’
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

TL;DR:

Trusting in people leads to disappointment. Trusting in God leads to peace, stability, and fruitfulness—even in hard times. Be like the tree planted by the stream. Let your confidence be in Him—not in man, plans, or control.

As I read these verses from Jeremiah 17 this morning, I felt convicted.

I say, “I trust God.”
But do my actions say, “I trust God… as long as He does it my way”?

That’s not real trust.

When we lean on human strength—our own plans, our logic, or even other people—we find ourselves spiritually dry, like a bush in the desert. No roots. No fruit. No peace. Just restlessness.

But when we trust in the Lord, our lives become rooted—like that beautiful tree by the water. No fear when heat comes. No panic in the drought. Always green. Always fruitful.

I want to be that tree.

So today, I’m asking God to help me stop leaning on human strength and place my full confidence in Him. I’m praying the same for you.

Lord, help us be humble enough to accept the things we cannot change,
Give us the courage to change the things we can,
And grant us the wisdom to know the difference.

Let us be like the tree—deeply rooted, full of life, bearing fruit even in tough seasons.

If you’ve been feeling dry, anxious, or disconnected, check your roots. Where are you placing your trust? Turn back to God. Plant yourself in His promises.

Trust God, not man.
It’s the only way to stay truly alive. 🌿🙏❤️
