1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Be joyful always, 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”1 Timothy 6:6
“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”1 Timothy 6:11-12
“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith…”
TL;DR:
Living joyfully starts with accepting what we cannot change and trusting God’s greater plan. When we stop wrestling for control and surrender in faith, even our hardest trials—including death—can bring forth new life and peace in Christ.
Be joyful always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances.
These words from 1 Thessalonians 5 are more than just a feel-good message—they’re a call to live joyfully, even when life is tough.
That joy becomes possible when we embrace godliness with contentment, as 1 Timothy 6:6 says. True peace and freedom come not from changing our circumstances, but from changing our perspective and trusting God’s plan over our own.
This truth became real to me through my journey with sobriety. For years, I wasn’t content with the reality of being an alcoholic. I kept trying to manage it—to drink “normally.” That constant resistance only led to turmoil and exhaustion. But once I accepted that I am an alcoholic, allergic to alcohol, and I can’t manage it—everything shifted.
I stopped fighting the wrong battle.
I started embracing sober living with contentment and joy.
Is there something in your life you’re not accepting? Something you keep trying to control or change—even though it’s outside your ability?
Let it go. Surrender it to God.
Trust that He’s working all things together for His glory.
And here’s the beautiful truth: You will be the beneficiary.
Because even in death—of dreams, plans, or habits—God brings life.
Fight the good fight of faith. Pursue righteousness. And let joy and contentment rise from a surrendered heart. 🙏❤️😇
