False Teaching vs. God’s Truth: Finding Healing in Christ, Not Humanism

2 Peter 2:1–3
“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into dispute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.”

TL;DR:

False teachings may look good on the surface, but only Christ’s truth heals and restores. Humanism and self-help may offer temporary fixes, but true freedom and peace come only from God’s Word.

There are many false teachers today, and sadly, many are falling for their lies. I’ve been there too. It’s so easy, especially with the internet, where endless voices promise peace, healing, and wisdom apart from Christ.

Years ago, during a painful breakup, I was desperate for comfort. I hadn’t read my Bible for years, and instead, I gravitated toward humanism and spirituality. It sounded good because it talked about God and positive thinking. But here’s the problem—it wasn’t pointing me to Jesus. It was teaching me to take control of my own thoughts instead of making my thoughts obedient to Christ.

Humanism focuses on self help and self esteem, but what we truly need is Christ’s help and Christ esteem. Only Jesus can heal our broken hearts and restore our hope. When I remembered who I am in Christ—loved, chosen, forgiven—I found the peace I had been chasing in all the wrong places.

Friend, if you or someone you love is going through tough times, don’t be lured by flashy promises or false teachings that sound good but lack the truth of Scripture. Instead, encourage them with the Word of God, because only His truth sets us free and brings lasting healing.
