2 Corinthians 5:14–15, 17
“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all… And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again… Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
TL;DR:
Your old self is dead. Your new self in Christ is alive. Stop serving what’s already been buried and walk boldly in who you are now—fully forgiven and fully restored.
Jesus didn’t just forgive you—He recreated you.
Your sinful nature was put to death at the cross.
Your new identity is your true reality.
So why do you sometimes slip back into old patterns, old guilt, and old ways of thinking?
Because the old self tries to whisper, “Remember who you were…”
But Jesus shouts, “Look at who you are now!”
When you first stepped into freedom—like when you quit drinking—you tasted that fresh joy of a clean slate. Yet people sometimes tried to pull you back into old labels:
“Remember when you…?”
And your answer was exactly right:
“That was the old me. I’m not her anymore.”
That truth still stands today.
Every time you feel tempted to return to old habits, old shame, or old identities, you’re being invited to choose:
Will you please what’s dead or live from what’s new?
Shake off the old.
Embrace who you are now—
a redeemed, restored, beloved child of God.
You’ve been washed white as snow.
So why go roll in the mud?
Walk today in your newness of life.
Forgiven.
Restored.
Made new.
