Matthew 11:28-30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
TL;DR: If you’re feeling exhausted, stop striving and start trusting. Not every battle is yours to fight. Seek God’s will, and He will strengthen you for the battles that truly matter.
Do you ever feel like you’re walking uphill in both directions? Like no matter how hard you push, the struggle never ends?
Maybe that’s because you’re fighting the wrong battle.
I recently heard a sermon by Adrian Rogers, and something he said deeply resonated with me:
“Stop trying and start trusting!”
That hit home. When I find myself pushing, striving, and fighting—but getting nowhere—I need to pause and ask: Is this God’s battle, or am I fighting for my own desires?
Some battles are righteous fights. God gives us strength and courage when we’re fighting for the right reasons.
For example, giving up alcohol was a battle for me. It was hard. But when I finally put Jesus at the center of my heart, something changed.
I longed for Jesus more than the numbing effect of alcohol.
I realized I couldn’t have both.
When I surrendered, the battle became easier.
But then there are battles we fight for selfish reasons. These are the ones that drain us. They leave us weary, exhausted, and frustrated—because they were never ours to win in the first place.
So today, ask yourself:
Am I fighting for something that’s pulling me away from God?
Or am I fighting to grow closer to Him?
The battles fought for Him will energize you. The battles fought for yourself will wear you down.
Put God first. Trust in Him. And let Him give you the strength you need for the battles that truly matter.
