Good Morning, God! Starting Each Day with Him First

Psalm 4:2-5:
“How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods? Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for Himself; the Lord will hear when I call to Him. In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.”

TL;DR: Start your day by saying, “Good morning, God!” Center your thoughts on Him first, sacrificing distractions and seeking His presence through prayer and trust. Quiet your mind, focus on Him, and let everything else fall into place.

How long will I love delusions and seek false gods? That question from Psalm 4:2 cuts straight to my heart. Too often, my mornings begin with thoughts that distract me from God—worries, to-do lists, or even scrolling on my phone. These “false gods” steal my focus and rob me of the peace that comes from honoring God first.

One of my dear friends shared that she begins each day by saying, “Good morning, God!” I loved hearing that because I used to do the same. But lately, I’ve allowed my mind to be consumed by other thoughts, drifting away from that beautiful habit of praising God first thing in the morning.

Psalm 4:4 gives us a roadmap: “When you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.” In those quiet moments, it’s easier to reflect and align our hearts with God’s will. But it takes intentionality and training to quiet the noise and focus on Him.

Our health and wellness—spiritual, mental, and emotional—begin in our minds and hearts. When we sacrifice the distractions and train our thoughts to seek God first, we align ourselves with His peace and purpose. Psalm 4:5 encourages us: “Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.” Today, I’m choosing to sacrifice the thoughts that occupy my mind ahead of God and take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

If we start our day with “Good morning, God!” and focus on His Word, everything else will fall into place. Let’s quiet our hearts, seek His presence, and let His love guide us through the day.

May your morning be filled with His peace and your day with His purpose!
