James 3:17-18
“But the wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peace makers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.”
tl;dr
Godly wisdom produces peace, humility, and good fruit. Sometimes less busyness creates more room for His peace.
James 3 talks about two different kinds of wisdom. It says to show wisdom by a good life and deeds done in humility.
As I read this today, I had to pause.
Am I walking in a good life with humility? Or am I harboring envy and selfish ambition?
Yesterday I celebrated my 60th birthday. I was very much focused on myself all day. That reflection reminded me how easily self-focus can leave an empty feeling, even in the middle of a truly blessed day. I am incredibly thankful for the celebration, the love, and the joy of it all. It was a wonderful day. But it also caused me to reflect on how quickly life can become centered around self.
So today I find myself in a bit of a quandary.
How do I stay grounded in humility, Godly wisdom, and peace if I am constantly trying to fit everything in?
The truth is, when I am busy “fitting it all in,” I often leave no room for His peace.
Godly wisdom looks very different from worldly striving. It is pure, peace loving, considerate, full of mercy, sincere, and rooted in humility. That kind of wisdom is not frantic. It is not restless. It is not obsessed with squeezing every possible thing into every possible moment.
As I enter this next decade, the theme for my 60s is simple:
Less is more.
Less striving.
Less busyness.
Less self-focus.
More peace.
More presence.
More God.
His peace over my busyness.
I hope this helps today.
