Let Go of Bitterness, Embrace Kindness

Ephesians 4:31-32
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

TL;DR:

Bitterness and rage weigh us down, but kindness and forgiveness set us free. True peace comes when we release anger to God and choose to love as Christ loves us.

Scripture tells us to get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger—and instead, to embrace kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.

For many years, rage consumed me. It plagued my heart and left me restless. Thankfully, God has softened me, and now I rarely get caught in rage the way I once did. One lesson I’ve learned is this: don’t take offense in the first place.

Still, when I’m treated unjustly, I can feel my blood start to boil. And honestly, the person I get most angry with is myself.

When I feel rage building, one of my best tools is to release it physically—sometimes even something simple like tearing up Kleenex helps me let go in the moment. But the peace that lasts doesn’t come from physical release—it comes from handing the situation over to God and trusting Him with it.

I also try to separate people from their behaviors. Instead of defining them by their actions, I remind myself: we are all beloved children of God. We all come with our own “issues” (don’t we all?). And because Christ has forgiven me, I’m called to extend that same forgiveness.

Today, let’s intentionally let go of bitterness and anger. Instead, let’s embrace the kindness, compassion, and love of Christ—toward others and toward ourselves.
