Look Up to Stay Up: Trust God When You Feel Weary

Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

TL;DR:
When you look down in discouragement, you fall deeper. When you look up in trust, God steadies your path.

I take great comfort in this verse.

Lately, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends again. When I get overly tired, something else creeps in—discouragement. A heaviness. A subtle hopelessness.

And when I feel hopeless, I notice something: I look down.

Looking down never works well for me.

As a ski and snowboard instructor, I tell my students all the time, “When you look down, you go down.” Your body follows your eyes. Your direction follows your focus.

The same is true spiritually.

When you fix your eyes on exhaustion, problems, or confusion, your heart sinks. But when you lift your gaze—when you acknowledge God in all your ways—your path steadies.

Trusting God doesn’t mean you understand everything. It means you choose to look up anyway.

Today, if you feel worn out or discouraged, adjust your gaze.

Look up.
Get up.
Stay up.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Stop leaning on your limited understanding. Acknowledge Him in everything—big and small—and He will make your path straight.

Where you look determines where you go.

So lift your eyes.
