Lying Dead in a Field: When God Answers Prayers You Can’t See

Romans 8:25
“But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”

TL;DR: Sometimes the answers to our prayers are invisible—until they’re not. God is always working, even when we can’t see it. Never stop praying, never stop trusting.

Have you ever prayed and wondered if your words made any difference?

You pour your heart out to God.
You cry out for someone you love.
And then—you wait.

Sometimes we see quick answers.
But often, we’re called to wait in faith—to hope for what we do not yet see.

Years ago, I prayed for my son as he sped away on his motorcycle. My prayer was simple and raw:
“Lord, even if he is lying in a field dead, I TRUST You are with him.”

Eighteen months later, that exact moment came.
My son was lying in a field, unresponsive.
A deputy sheriff found him, opened his airway—and he took a breath.
Three days later, he woke from a coma and asked,
“Mom, where is the kid that was with me?”

I told him he had been alone.
His response:
“I was not alone! I have to find that boy—I need to talk to him!”

I believe with all my heart that “boy” was Jesus.

My son’s life was spared.
But more than that, my prayer—one I thought had gone unheard—had been answered in God’s timing, and in God’s way.

There are countless stories of people being impacted by prayers that were never “seen” on this side of heaven. Prayers spoken in faith. Prayers soaked in tears. Prayers that feel like they disappear into silence.

But God hears every one.

Even if we never see the full answer.
Even if our loved ones are “lying in a field.”
God is with them. God is working. God is faithful.

So today—
Don’t stop praying.
Don’t stop hoping.
Don’t stop trusting.

God loves the people you’re praying for even more than you do.
