Romans 6:12-14
“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to Him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.”
TL;DR:
Sin starts in our thoughts. If we don’t catch it early, it grows. Whether it’s gluttony, addiction, or lust—nip it in the bud. By God’s grace, we can surrender these battles to Jesus, walk in freedom, and live with purpose. Start fresh today.
Do not let sin reign in your mortal body. That’s the call in Romans 6—and wow, that’s tough. Let’s be honest: it’s easy to justify the little things. “Just one mini candy bar…” But how many does one become?
Having a treat isn’t a sin. But gluttony is.
A glass of wine isn’t a sin. But getting drunk is.
As a recovering alcoholic, I spent years trying to convince myself I could be a “normal drinker.” One or two drinks… that’s all I’d need, right? But it never worked. It only led to pain. So for me, I’ve learned to avoid the first thought—because that’s where the battle starts.
As we think, so shall we be.
The more I entertain fleshly desires, the more I find myself chasing things I know don’t honor God. The key for me is to nip it in the bud—to recognize those thoughts early and surrender them to Jesus.
We’re not saved by how well we manage temptation. We’re saved by grace. But grace doesn’t mean we ignore sin. It means we run to the One who helps us overcome it.
Jesus offers cleansing forgiveness, no matter how many times we fall. But He also invites us to walk in what I like to call Good Orderly Direction—a daily choice to live with intention, to walk in freedom, to rely on His strength.
And I can’t do this alone. I need Christ every day—to help me shed the old and walk in the new.
Today, take a moment. What’s the “first thought” you need to surrender?
Be inspired to give it to God.
Start fresh.
Nip it in the bud, and walk in His freedom. 🙏❤️😇
