Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”Psalm 46:10:
“Be still and know that I am God.”Ecclesiastes 4:12:
“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
TL;DR: Prayer is powerful, but reading God’s Word is equally important. Prayer is how we talk to God, but Scripture is how He speaks to us. Strengthen your faith by engaging in both, and surround yourself with fellow believers for encouragement and support.
Yesterday, I met a group of young men on the ski hill. One of them was wearing a sweatshirt that said, “Y’all need Jesus!” I smiled and told him I loved it. With huge grins, all three of them enthusiastically professed their faith in Jesus. It was such a joy to see!
I asked them, “What church do you go to?” They responded, “We aren’t going to church right now—mostly just praying and trusting Jesus.”
I told them, “Prayer is great! Trusting Jesus is everything! But don’t forget to read God’s Word too.”
If we only pray, it becomes a one-sided conversation. God speaks to us through the Bible. His words provide guidance, encouragement, and solid ground to stand on. One of my go-to verses is Psalm 46:10, which reminds me to quiet my heart and trust Him: “Be still and know that I am God.”
Another verse I wanted to share with those young men is Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Life is hard sometimes. In those tough moments, I need to hold on to hope. I need to remember that while I might not see the full picture, Jesus sees the forest through the trees. His plans for me are good, even when life feels uncertain.
Jesus Himself said, “In this world, you will have trouble. Fear not! I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33). That’s hope! And hope is strengthened when we read God’s promises in the Bible.
I also encouraged them to seek fellowship with other Bible-believing Christians. Ecclesiastes 4:12 reminds us:
“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Two people with Jesus at the center make a strong team. We need each other for encouragement, accountability, and strength in faith.
So today, pray AND read God’s Word. Let it guide you, strengthen you, and fill you with hope. Surround yourself with people who will encourage you to grow in your walk with Christ.
You will never regret having hope—and you will always find it in Jesus!
