Prideful Crash: A Lesson in Staying Humble

Ezekiel 28:5, 17:
“By your great skill in trading, you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth, your heart has grown proud… Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.”

TL;DR: Pride can blind us to reality. When we start feeling invincible, we stop being careful. Stay humble, stay alert, and remember that all good things come from God!

PRIDE. It sneaks in when things are going well.

After completing four great races in four days during Birkie week, I felt pretty puffed up—proud of my endurance, my performance, and my accomplishments.

Then came the reality check.

This morning, as I was driving to Madison, I was still feeling empowered and unstoppable—until I hit black ice.

In an instant, I lost control of my car and crashed.

The moment I sat there in the aftermath, my pride was replaced by humility. One minute I was on top of the world, and the next, I was thanking God that no one was injured because of my carelessness and overconfidence.

Pride is dangerous. It makes us feel invincible, but it never ends well.

Ezekiel 28:5, 17 reminds us that when we become proud of our own achievements, we risk losing wisdom, awareness, and perspective.

So today, if you’re feeling great about what you’ve accomplished—awesome! But stay humble. Stay alert.

Everything we have comes from God in the first place. Let’s keep our eyes on Him and not on our own success.
