Procrastination Is Sin: Do the Good You Know to Do

James 4:17
“Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”

TL;DR:
Delayed obedience is still disobedience. When you know the right thing to do, act on it.

This verse is direct.

If you know the good you ought to do—and you don’t do it—it is sin.

Procrastination often feels harmless. You tell yourself you’ll start tomorrow. You’ll apologize later. You’ll have that hard conversation next week. You’ll begin the discipline routine when life slows down.

But delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Procrastination isn’t always laziness. Sometimes it’s fear. Sometimes it’s pride. Sometimes it’s comfort. Sometimes it’s simply a lack of fortitude.

I feel this often. I know what to do—but I hesitate. I delay. I rationalize.

The more you grow in your knowledge of God’s Word, the more aware you become of your need for a Savior. The standard is high. Your strength is limited.

And that realization is not discouraging—it’s humbling.

Thank God for Jesus.

He paid for every delayed step. Every moment of hesitation. Every time you knew better but didn’t act.

Today, if there is something good you know you should do—do it.

Send the message.
Make the call.
Begin the habit.
Take the first step.

Don’t wait for perfect motivation. Choose obedience.

And when you fall short, remember your hope is not in your performance—but in the powerful gift of Jesus.
