Radiant Face? Or Doom and Gloom?

Exodus 34:29
“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord.”

tl;dr
What fills the heart eventually shows on the face. Time spent with God produces peace and radiance, while worry and fear drain joy and energy.

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had been speaking with the Lord.

What a powerful picture.

When daily time is spent with God through prayer and reading His Word, it shows. It affects attitude, perspective, countenance, and even the way people respond. There is a peace and joy that naturally flow from being in His presence.

The opposite is true as well.

When time is spent in worry, regret, complaining, fear, or self-pity, that shows up too. When I find myself in that place, people will often ask, “Are you okay?” or say, “You look tired today.” Sometimes they notice before I do.

Just as Moses was unaware that his face was radiant, I am often slow to recognize when my focus has drifted from God. Usually it does not happen all at once. It starts with a little compromise here and there. A little more worry. A little less trust. A little less time in prayer. Before long, I feel like I am carrying a huge rock on my shoulders.

The way out is always the same.

I return to God’s Word. I pray. I intentionally put my faith into action by trusting God, even when I am not a fan of His ways. As my focus shifts back to Him, the burden begins to lift.

When I focus on God’s truth, I can almost feel the warmth of His Son’s shine radiating on my face once again.

So today, what is receiving the most attention?

The worries of the world? Or the promises of God?

Are you basking in His Son? Or hiding under a rock?

Be radiant.

Focus on His Son’s shine.
