The Meaning of Life: Love God, Love People

Psalm 39:4:
“Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.”

TL;DR: Life is fleeting—so what are we doing with it? The true meaning of life is to love God and love others. What we do for Christ is what truly lasts.

What is the meaning of life? That’s a question I often ponder.

There’s a saying that has stuck with me:

“Life on earth is soon to pass, only what’s done for Christ will last.”

Think about it—who has made the greatest impact on your life?

For me, it’s the people who pointed me to Jesus and His Word. In the Bible, I have found my purpose:

“Love God and love His people.” (The Kimberly paraphrase)

Jesus Himself said:

“Love others as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

He also said:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love others as you love yourself. All the other commandments are based on these two.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

Honestly, I’ve struggled with loving myself at times. So, instead, I strive to love others as Jesus loves me.

Today, as we plan how to spend our time, let’s ask ourselves:

Will this make an eternal difference?
Am I investing in things that last?
Am I loving God and loving others?

Let’s live with purpose today!
