Proverbs 15:31-33:
“He who listens to life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.”
TL;DR: Correction can be hard to hear, but it is a gift. Life-giving rebuke softens our hearts, keeps us humble, and helps us grow in Christ.
Recently, I fell into sin—a sin I thought I had conquered long ago.
Just a taste of it made me want more.
It started with a small compromise and quickly turned into blatant disobedience. My heart began to harden, and I found myself thinking, “So what?”
That was a red flag.
When I looked deeper, I realized the root issue was pride.
I wasn’t seeking first the kingdom of God—I was seeking the desires of my flesh.
Then, a dear Christian friend pointed something out to me:
➡️ I had been “showing off.”
➡️ My “little sins” had begun hardening my heart.
➡️ My words and actions were drifting away from God’s standards.
The wake-up call?
➡️ A swear word slipped out of my mouth at church.
That moment hit me hard. It was a clear indicator of where my heart had been.
But here’s what I am grateful for:
✔️ My friend’s life-giving rebuke.
✔️ The conviction of the Holy Spirit.
✔️ The opportunity to repent and grow.
Did I like being corrected? No.
Did I need it? Absolutely.
Discipline is never easy, but I would rather be humbled and restored than hardened and prideful.
Proverbs 15:31-33 reminds us:
- Listening to correction brings wisdom.
- Ignoring discipline leads to self-destruction.
- True humility comes before honor.
Today, I pray that God blesses you with friends who love you enough to speak truth in love.
And may you have the courage to do the same for others.
✔️ Be willing to listen.
✔️ Be bold enough to correct in love.
✔️ Keep your heart soft and open to God’s correction.
Correction is not rejection—it is a path to wisdom and growth.
