Turning Your Worst Day Into the Best Day for Change

Ephesians 1:11
“In Him we are chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works everything out in conformity with the purpose of His will.”

TL;DR:

God can take your lowest moment and use it as the turning point that changes everything—if you let Him.

Twenty-one years ago today, my life hit a breaking point. I was arrested for drunk driving—with my children in the car. That moment could have cost me everything. As they booked me and my children watched, I knew I could no longer hide behind the illusion of being a “closet drunk.” I had to own my brokenness—and stop returning to it.

Those next three days brought severe withdrawals, but they also brought clarity. From that moment on, I’ve done everything possible to keep Jesus front and center, leaving every thought of drinking in the past.

Even now, I’m not free from the temptation of addictive escapes. I may binge-watch YouTube trying to find clarity instead of opening my Bible. I may obsess over exercise instead of tending to my responsibilities. I still have plenty of things that try to take God’s place in my heart—but today, I can recognize them, repent, and try again.

I’m not who I want to be yet, but praise God—I am not who I used to be.

Your past doesn’t define you. Your failures don’t disqualify you. God uses the very moments meant to destroy you as the catalyst for a whole new life. My worst day became the doorway to my best day—the day Jesus grabbed hold of me and never let go.

If you’re facing trouble today, let it lead you straight to Him. Take His yoke. Walk in a Good, Orderly Direction. Trust that He is working everything—everything—in conformity with the purpose of His will.

Today, I can honestly say:
I’m thankful for that drunk-driving arrest.
It woke me up.
It saved my life.
It was necessary.

Whatever you’re walking through, trust this: God knows exactly what He’s doing.
