Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
TL;DR:
True peace comes when we stop chasing our own desires and start wanting what God wants for us. Let Him fill the emptiness, guide your relationships, and reshape your heart. Delight in the Lord first—and everything else will fall into place.
“Help me want what You want.“
That little prayer has been a powerful shift in my heart recently. It’s simple, but it’s life-changing.
Psalm 37:4 promises that when we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart. And Matthew 6:33 echoes the same truth—seek Him first, and everything else will follow.
I’ve found this to be especially true in my relationships—particularly with my adult children. Like many parents, I sometimes wish for more time, more closeness, more connection. But if I push for what I want, I risk placing pressure and neediness on them—and that becomes a burden, not a blessing.
Instead, I’ve learned to appreciate what I get. To respect their boundaries. To let go of my agenda, and let God fill any emptiness I feel. Only Jesus can satisfy my soul, not my kids, not my friends, not even the best relationships.
When I truly seek God first and delight in Him, something shifts.
He softens my heart.
He humbles my pride.
He teaches me to want what He wants.
Happiness doesn’t come from having everything we want—it comes from wanting what we already have. And knowing that what we have is exactly what God, in His love and wisdom, has provided.
Sometimes, He tells me to be patient and wait. Other times, He nudges me to let go. Either way, the path to peace is clear:
Seek Him first. Trust His plan. Want what He wants.
This is a daily choice—a constant surrender of my will to His. But when I do, I walk in peace.
I hope this brings encouragement to you today.
