Isaiah 26:18:
“We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth to the wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth; we have not given birth to people of the world.”Isaiah 26:3-4:
“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord is the Rock eternal.”
TL;DR: What thoughts and desires are you nurturing? If they are rooted in worldly fulfillment, they will lead to emptiness. Keep your mind steadfast on God, trust His plan, and give birth to His purpose in your life.
When I read Isaiah 26:18, I’m struck by the phrase, “We gave birth to the wind.” It makes me reflect on the thoughts and desires I allow to grow in my heart. Am I nurturing things that align with God’s will, or am I focusing on worldly fulfillment that ultimately leads to emptiness?
It’s easy to get caught up in chasing temporary satisfaction—whether it’s success, approval, material possessions, or personal ambitions. But when we put our hope in these things, we often end up wrestling in pain, only to give birth to the wind—nothing lasting, nothing meaningful.
True fulfillment comes when our desires are rooted in God’s purpose. When we trust in Him and keep our minds steadfast on His truth, we find perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Instead of striving for things that leave us empty, we can trust that God’s ways lead to something real, something eternal.
Today, let’s ask ourselves: What am I giving birth to? Am I allowing my mind to dwell on things that pull me away from God? Or am I planting seeds of faith, hope, and trust in Him?
May our deepest desire be God Himself, and may we trust in His perfect plan for our lives.
