Matthew 11:20
“Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles had been performed because they did not repent.”
TL;DR: Repentance isn’t just feeling sorry—it’s a true and lasting turn from self to God. As we reflect this Easter, let’s leave our sin at the cross and move forward in the freedom Jesus offers.
What is repentance?
In Christianity, repentance is not just regret or guilt—it’s a sincere turning away in both mind and heart, from self to God. It’s not about perfection but direction. It means leaving behind the old patterns, the selfish desires, and the sin we so easily return to—and walking forward in God’s truth.
This Easter weekend, I’ve been blessed to spend time with my dear aunts. One of my goals during this time was to attend reflective worship services—and we’ve done just that.
Yesterday, on Good Friday, we took part in a powerful moment. Each of us nailed a nail into a wooden cross, symbolizing placing our sin on that cross—and leaving it there.
That’s the key: leaving it there.
True repentance doesn’t mean trying to manage sin, hide it better, or figure out a way to keep parts of it while appearing holy.
It means letting it go. Turning completely toward God.
Scripture says, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11)
We’ve all been guilty of going back to what we should have left behind.
But Jesus calls us to more.
He calls us to freedom.
He calls us to a life transformed.
This Easter, may the love of Jesus and the power of His resurrection move each of us into true repentance—not just in words or feelings, but in actions and surrender.
Repentance is the gateway to renewal. Let’s walk through it boldly, in grace.
