2 Corinthians 10:18: “For it is not the man who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.”
TL;DR: Are you seeking the attention of others or the approval of God? Reflect on your motivations and strive to serve with a pure heart, knowing that God always sees and rewards what is done in secret.
Am I truly doing God’s work with a pure heart? This question has been on my mind since reading 2 Corinthians 10:18, which reminds us that true approval comes from the Lord, not from human accolades.
If I’m honest, I’ve spent much of my life seeking attention. A friend once asked me, “Why do you care so much about winning?” Looking back, I realize it was because winners get noticed. But today, I’m reflecting on how much of my energy goes toward seeking God’s attention versus the attention of people.
It’s a bit ironic because God is always paying attention. He sees us, knows us, and rewards us in His perfect way. Jesus teaches us to do good in secret, where it isn’t about public recognition. What we do in secret, He rewards openly.
God isn’t impressed by grand gestures or external displays. He values a pure heart and a cheerful spirit. As it says in Scripture, God loves a cheerful giver—whether we’re giving our resources, talents, or time.
I don’t have the finances to make large charitable contributions, but what I do have is 24 hours in a day. I pray that today, I can cheerfully and fully give Him those hours. I hope to spend my time in a way that honors Him—serving others, spreading His love, and seeking His approval above all else.
If you’ve ever felt torn between pleasing people and pleasing God, take heart. God’s approval is the only one that truly matters, and He is always watching. Serve Him with joy, give cheerfully from whatever you have, and trust in His rewards.
Let’s commit to living for His attention, not the fleeting applause of others. May we all strive to give our time, talents, and hearts to Him with pure and cheerful spirits!
