Willful Sin Equals a Hardened Heart

Hebrews 3:6-8
“But Christ is faithful as a Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast. So, as the Holy Spirit says: ‘Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert.’”

TL;DR:

When we willfully hold on to sin, we harden our hearts toward God. Let His Holy Spirit soften your heart today—clean house, follow His lead, and step into His rest.

Do not harden your heart!

When we knowingly cling to sin—the very things the Holy Spirit is nudging us to surrender—we begin to harden our hearts. That slow, quiet rebellion keeps us from the peace and joy God wants to give us.

I’ve been there. I’ve embraced sins like lust, gluttony, greed, worry, and complaining. At times, I’ve told myself, “I can’t get rid of this, so I won’t even try.” But that’s the lie that leads to a hardened heart.

A hardened heart is like poison—it spreads. When I compromise in one area, it becomes easier to compromise in another. Soon, my convictions grow dull, and my spirit feels distant from God.

But the good news? God’s mercy always calls us back. His Spirit lives in us, and we are His house. He lovingly convicts us—not to shame us, but to restore us.

So today, if you hear His voice prompting you to change something, don’t ignore it. Be courageous. Be hopeful. Do the hard correction now, before the rebellion grows.

You don’t have to wander in the desert for forty years.
Let God soften your heart—so you can live in His peace, His presence, and His rest.
