Yesterday’s Gone: Press Forward with Purpose and Faith

Philippians 3:13–14
“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

TL;DR:

Let go of the past and live in the present. You can’t change what has been, but you can embrace what still can be. God calls you forward, not backward. Live today fully in His grace.

Do you ever find yourself stuck in the past? I do.

There are moments when I catch myself rethinking old conversations, revisiting choices I’ve made, and pouring energy into the “what ifs” and “if onlys.” I know I can’t change the past, but when I look at how I act or think, it’s as if I’m trying to rewrite it with today’s actions.

Kenny Rogers had it right—

“You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away, and know when to run…”

Ecclesiastes tells us that there’s a season for everything. And some seasons are simply over.

If I spend my present energy wishing for what “could have been,” I miss the beauty of what still can be. God doesn’t want me stuck in regret. He calls me forward.

“I press on toward the goal…”

For me to be healthy, whole, and well today, I have to live in today. I need to accept what is, trust God with it, and move forward with hope, faith, and purpose. Because today—this very moment—is a gift.

So let’s be good stewards of today. Let’s let go of yesterday and lean into the beautiful possibilities that come from pressing on toward the prize in Christ Jesus.
