True Intimacy in Marriage: How Faith Keeps Your Connection Alive

Ephesians 5:33 “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”

TL;DR: Intimacy is one of the most vital parts of a healthy marriage, but it’s easy to lose over time. When husbands adore their wives and wives respect their husbands — with Jesus as the foundation — that connection stays strong and unshakable.

Men adoring their wives and wives respecting their husbands is the great aphrodisiac. It really is that simple, and that powerful.

Some couples gradually lose intimacy in marriage as life gets busier. Whether it’s the natural process of aging or just getting buried under screen time and packed schedules, it’s easy to slowly disconnect from the person right beside you. And here’s the painful irony — the people we love the most are often the ones we stop nurturing.

If you are blessed to have a spouse, never forget: the two of you are one flesh. So ask yourself honestly — would you intentionally injure yourself? Probably not. Yet so many of us pick at, criticize, and tear down the very person we chose to build a life with. Stop. You are one flesh.

Think of your marriage relationship as a threefold cord — husband, wife, and Jesus. That is your unshakable inner core. A Christ-centered marriage built on that foundation is one that can weather anything. And here’s something worth protecting: not even your children or grandchildren belong inside that inner circle. Your marriage comes first.

Husbands, cherish your wife. Wives, respect your husband. This isn’t just good relationship advice — it’s a calling. And it becomes genuinely possible when Jesus is your foundation. He is the motivation that keeps emotional and physical intimacy alive in your marriage, year after year.

If your connection has grown cold or distant, the good news is that it doesn’t have to stay that way. Rebuilding intimacy in your marriage starts with a choice — to love intentionally, to nurture consistently, and to keep Jesus at the center of everything.
