Romans 2:3
“So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?”
TL;DR:
When you judge others, you may later find yourself in their shoes. Let God use those moments to grow your humility and understanding.
Judging others has a way of circling back.
How often have you quietly criticized someone—only to later find yourself in a similar situation?
This week I’m babysitting my 3- and 1-year-old grandsons. It is wonderful. It is full. Very full.
When I was a young mom, I somehow managed three boys two years apart, worked full time, kept the house clean, and maintained a regular exercise routine. At least that’s how I remember it.
Now? The house is messy. The boys are my main focus. Extra exercise is hard to squeeze in.
But here’s what’s different: I am fully present. I’m not rushing to the next task. I’m not worried about the “less important” things. I’m soaking in every giggle, every hug, every small moment.
Thirty-plus years ago, a friend babysat my boys one afternoon. When I returned, the house was a disaster. I remember feeling judgmental. How could she leave things like this?
Today, I see it differently.
That mess likely meant she was “all in” with my kids. She chose presence over perfection.
God has a gentle way of humbling you—not to shame you, but to grow you. He lets you step into situations that reshape your perspective.
Judgment shrinks your heart.
Experience softens it.
What might God be showing you right now?
Where is He inviting you to trade criticism for compassion?
Open your eyes. You may discover a deeper understanding—and a more gracious heart.
